20080630 An ex-stump

Once upon a time, there was a lovely flowering
crabapple tree in the front yard. But it died.

So I had to dig it up. I dug a hole.

A large hole. For comparison, here I am standing
in said aforementioned hole.
The hole is big.
The hole is deep.
The back is aching.

Ok, so I was on my knees in the hole, but to
give you some idea of the size of the stump,
it measures approximately 37 feet in diameter,
is 156 cubits long, and it weighs more than
an elephant.

A very large elephant.

20080628 Depth of Field stacking

One of the things about the CHDK script for the Canon Powershot is bracketing. Set macro mode, change focus by 30mm each shot, set to continuous shooting, then use the GNU-freeware COMBINEZM to stack several photos focused at different places together into one photo focused from near to far.

The result:

20080608 And the clouds move

The next things I tried with the programming-the-camera script (CHDK)
was Time Lapse. Each image was taken 5s apart, made into a movie where
they are played back every 0.125s (from .2 fps to 8 fps for a speedup of 40x)

20080607 Lightning Attempt #1-failed

So I have this great programming script I can
use with my camera that waits for change in "motion"
or light and snaps a picture very quickly after
detection. Good for lightning. Testing shows it will
snap picture within 80-120ms of detecting change
in the luminance value. And we had Tstorms come
through the area last night, and I was able to try
out the program. Except the lightning was shy and
hid behind the clouds during the entire event.

The best I got looks like this:

Way back when, I was able to handhold and get the
best lightning image I've ever done: 7-18-2006
